CSPA Backs TSCA House Discussion Draft

A new House discussion draft bill for modernizing the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) is a step in the right direction, according to the Consumer Specialty Products Association (CSPA).

“This discussion draft could be the basis for a bill that brings all of the stakeholders involved in TSCA modernization together behind one piece of legislation,” said Chris Cathcart, president and CEO of the CSPA. “Chairman Shimkus, Chairman Upton, and Ranking Member Pallone are proceeding in an open, thoughtful way, and the consumer products industry looks forward to providing input to the bill drafters and working with all parties to bring our country’s chemical laws into the 21st century.”

During the past five years, CSPA member companies have actively supported bipartisan legislative proposals to update the current chemical management law to ensure that the process is working in a way that: (1) protects public health and the environment; (2) allows companies to operate effectively in commerce; and (3) maximizes consumer confidence in chemical safety.
