On greening your shaving routine

Information travels fast today, but sometimes the facts get scrambled through cyberspace. We’re cleaning greener, driving greener and doing a multitude of other things in the spirit of going green. While the jury is still out on exactly what it means to be green, the intent is good—to move toward a more sustainable way of life and make less of an impact on the environment. Sometimes, though, the “going green” tips distort the facts or might not even make sense.

Take “green shaving,” for instance. There is quite a bit of advice on how to green your shaving routine.

  • Dump the disposable razors for an electric. Can’t say this makes a whole lot of sense as it’s a matter of personal preference and in reality a trade-off.
  • Use non-aerosol shaving cream. Why? Aerosol products do not harm the environment, plus the cans can be recycled. More information is available at www.AerosolProducts.org and www.aboutaerosols.com.
  • Don’t leave the water running the entire time you’re shaving. Good advice!
