CSPA President to Address International Aerosol Congress

 WASHINGTON, DC (May 26, 2003) – Christopher Cathcart, president, Consumer Specialty Products Association (CSPA), will address the 24 th International Aerosol Congress, to be held Sept. 23-25 in Nice, France. With the theme, The Aerosol and the Challenge of Sustainable Development , the event is being hosted by the Comité Français des Aérosols.

Cathcart will give a presentation on Sustainable Development and Product Stewardship , focusing on Product Care SM . It will be the first time that Product Care will be discussed in depth before a large European audience since its public launch early this year. With much progress to report about the program and CSPA member participation, Cathcart will take the opportunity to showcase Product Care. He will explain that, by supporting a long-term commitment to product stewardship and continuous improvement of industry performance, Product Care enhances industry's efforts toward sustainable development.

Cathcart's presentation will provide the overarching discussion about sustainable development, and will pull together the other seven topics on the conference agenda, including:

  • The future of sustainable development and what it means for the aerosol industry
  • The impact of aerosol industry emissions on tropospheric ozone
  • Key issues affecting the chemical composition of the atmosphere (global warming, reduction in stratospheric ozone and others)
  • A review of current legislation on aerosol warehousing
  • Information as a key to ensuring consumer safety
  • How consumers view aerosols
  • How aerosol technology evolved over the past half-century.

The other speakers are from organizations based in Britain , Germany and France . In addition to Cathcart, the U.S. delegation includes Doug Fratz , CSPA's vice president, scientific and technical affairs, who will speak at a workshop on Formulae and VOCs, and Robert Abplanalp, president and founder of Precision Valve Corporation, who will discuss the evolution of aerosol technology.
