Statement by Christopher Cathcart, President, CSPA,
Regarding Inappropriate Use of Aerosol Products
WASHINGTON, DC (April 17, 2009) – “The recent number of incidents involving teenagers misusing aerosol products and converting them into dangerous makeshift flamethrowers reinforces the need for the consuming public to only use products for their intended purpose and as directed on the product labels.
"Almost any product in the market today can be deliberately misused and cause harm, and we all have a responsibility to minimize such abuse and educate our youth about the dangers of product misuse.
"Aerosols are designed to be safe for use according to label directions. The aerosol industry has always encouraged users to follow label directions, and proactively warned against product misuse and abuse.”
