ACE and CSPA Join Efforts to Educate Americans on Asthma Prevention
Washington, DC (May 5, 2008): In honor of World Asthma Day May 6th, the Alliance for Consumer Education (ACE) and the Consumer Specialty Products Association’s (CSPA) Cleaning Products Division are partnering to educate Americans on ways to minimize irritants and allergens that can trigger an asthma attack or worsen allergy symptoms.
According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, 1 in 4 Americans is affected by asthma and allergies. Symptoms are frequently made worse by indoor components that can easily be eliminated. These common asthma triggers include dust mites, mold, cockroaches, tobacco smoke, pollen, and pet dander. It is important for people to know that these triggers can be minimized by following a medical management plan and taking the proper cleaning measures in your home and office.
ACE and CSPA’s Cleaning Products Division recommend the following steps to help minimize indoor asthma and allergy triggers:
•
Dust and rid surfaces of germs
•
Vacuum furniture and carpets
•
Choose children’s’ toys that can be laundered and wash them frequently in hot water and on high heat
•
Wash bed and other linens once a week in hot water
•
Use airtight, antibacterial mattress and pillow covers
•
Take measures to avoid the growing of mold spores
•
Clean moldy surfaces
•
Limit exposed food and dispose of garbage
Household cleaning is proven to be beneficial in removing indoor allergens from surfaces. Knowing and taking actions to minimize your triggers can help you properly manage your symptoms associated with asthma and allergies. As with any cleaning product, read and follow label directions.
