Statement on TSCA House Vote, June 23rd

by admin on June 23, 2015 No comments

The overwhelming bipartisan support in today’s vote for reforming our chemical laws is a testament to the hard work of Subcommittee Chairman John Shimkus (R-IL), Subcommittee Ranking Member Paul Tonko (D-NY), Full Committee Chair Fred Upton (R-MI), Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone (D-NJ), and many other members of Congress who are committed to improving the Toxic Substances Control Act.  They have crafted a targeted bill that addresses many of the core issues with the existing law, and they have done what many thought was impossible – bringing Democrats and Republicans together for the first time since 1990 to pass legislation updating a major environmental law.

Members of the Consumer Specialty Products Association look forward to working with the Senate to pass the bipartisan Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act and to reconciling the House and Senate bills so President Obama can sign legislation that inspires consumer confidence, reduces overlapping and sometimes conflicting state-level regulations, and establishes a science-based, federal chemical regulatory system.
